Key Things to Watch For in the Quarter
Analysts on Wall Street estimate that Brookdale will report a 26% decrease in EPS to $0.43 for 4Q16 while revenues remain the same from this quarter last year. We look forward to seeing more from Brookdale’s Entrepreneur in Residence program in 2017. This program exposes the company to several new technologies and products that are marketed towards and tested on senior citizens throughout their facilities. The first three quarters of 2016 were filled with mixed reports as investors responded adversely to all three earnings releases. Brookdale met earnings estimates in Q1, beat them in Q2, but missed in Q3. Interestingly enough, shares were down in the weeks following Q1 and Q2 around 5%, but up almost 7% following the Q3 earnings release. We remain bullish on Brookdale as we move into 2017. But we are cautious at the same time. If the stock drops from its current level we will have to remove it from the portfolio.
